You & the Blue

A Newsletter for Alumni and Friends of Broward College

JUNE 2020

THANK YOU! I AM OVERWHELMED BY YOUR SUPPORT

Nancy O'Donnell-WilsonLast Friday I shared a personal story about an incident of systemic racism I witnessed involving our president, Gregory Adam Haile. Believe me, I struggled with this message, making sure every word was exactly the right one to convey my feelings. I am deeply touched by the overwhelmingly positive response and kind remarks I’ve received. It is truly heartwarming.

I’m going to take the liberty to thank Broward College leaders who are keeping everything moving forward, cautiously and deliberately. In light of all that is going on these days and in the spirit of justice, the Board of Directors of the Broward College Foundation, and President Haile and his team, elected to establish the Black Lives Matter Scholarship at Broward College, to ensure more individuals will be able to access the transformative power of education.

BLM Banner

The Black Lives Matter Scholarship supports Broward College students who are pushing forward initiatives to make sure that their diverse voices and stories are represented in our community. It supports our student leaders who are working with the College to develop thoughtful programming that addresses the core issues of the Black Lives Matter movement; building understanding and communication that leads to open and honest learning and discovery for our students to learn how to love each other in unity, how to face adversity, and build leadership skills to usher in a new era of systemic change.

Click here if you’d like to read more about this initiative. Click here if you’d like to join me and other members of the Broward College Alumni & Friends Network who support this scholarship. I am so grateful to those of you who have already joined us by funding this initiative.
