The R. Motwani Family Academy “Welcome Back” Gala celebrated the advancement of the hospitality and tourism industry in Broward County

The R. Motwani Family Academy of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Broward College hosted its annual fundraising gala at the Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach on Thursday, October 14, 2021 bringing together more than 270 hospitality and tourism business leaders and professionals from South Florida.

Though the last year and a half of the pandemic caused unprecedented impacts to the hospitality and tourism industry, the “Welcome Back” fundraising event marked a celebration of the industry in supporting the Academy’s next generation of leaders in the field – a step forward in an industry that has suffered labor shortages. The event raised more than $263,000 to benefit Broward College’s hospitality and tourism students through scholarships and enhanced learning experiences. Read More. 

Alumni shines on national stage

We watched with great Seahawk pride as BC alumna Tory Vagasy demonstrated her soaring talent on Season 16 of America’s Got Talent. The Pompano Beach native is a self-taught vocal powerhouse who wowed judges and audiences making it all the way to the competitive semi-finals. We look forward to following Tory’s path to Broadway and beyond! #bcproud.

MAKING A GIFT COSTS YOU NOTHING TODAY 

In celebration of National Estate Planning Awareness Week October 18th-24th, Bev Yanowitch, a financial consultant to the Broward College Foundation for 11 years before joining its board of directors, wanted to share why she has included the foundation as a beneficiary in her will in support of the health sciences program. 

“Broward College is a hidden gem in our community. They educate the workforce that we rely upon. State funding for community colleges continues to decline, and for me personally, this was an impetus to leave a legacy gift to Broward College.”
