Alumna Appointed to Broward County Court
The Broward College Alumni & Friends congratulate alumna Catalina Avalos, who was recently appointed Broward County Judge by Governor Ron DeSantis. A director with the law firm of Tripp Scott at the time of her appointment, she specialized in labor and employment law and complex commercial litigation and has extensive experience in civil and criminal court matters. Catalina served as county judge once before having been appointed by Governor Jeb Bush.
Catalina graduated with her A.A. from Broward College in 1991, acquired her B.A. from Florida International University, and her J.D. from Nova Southeastern University. She has also shared her expertise at Broward College as an adjunct faculty member in the Criminal Justice Institute.
We celebrate Catalina’s appointment and her exemplary path, which demonstrates what great things Broward College alumni can achieve.
Alumni Brothers Win Business Plan Competition
The Broward College Alumni & Friends celebrate the success of Broward College alumni, brothers, and entrepreneur innovators of Fire Neural Network (FNN) Istvan Kereszy (BASc ’12) and Tamas Kereszy (A.A. ’16).
Istvan, as CEO, Tamas as COO, and their FNN colleagues won the University of Florida’s Big Idea Gator Business Plan Competition, as well as the Best Artificial Intelligence Award. As FNN’s website tells us, “Lightning-initiated fires are responsible for more than 70 percent of the area burned, and Fire Neural Network (FNN) detects these wildfires within seconds. FNN uses its proprietary lightning detector network, data from the newest environmental satellites, and AI signal processing adopted from astrophysics to quickly locate fire ignition spots. FNN delivers actionable intelligence in real-time.”
In the 30-year history of the competition, this is the first time all eleven judges voted unanimously for the same winning company.
We are proud of their achievement and the recognition they have received. To learn more about Fire Neural Network, click here.
