JULY 2022

CELEBRATING PRIDE COLLEGE-WIDE

Pride

At Broward College there are many Employee Resource Groups (ERG). The College’s LGBTQIA+ ERG aims to build a sense of belonging for its members through activities, communications, and employee bonding. This month, D. Preston Steele, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, spearheaded an initiative with the ERG members to paint the progressive Pride flag at the Central, North, and South campuses as a demonstration of the College’s commitment to inclusiveness across the institution.

Alumni, faculty and staff members who are also members of the LGBQIA+ ERG participated and shared their thoughts on why they feel it is important to support this movement:

"It’s important that we [Broward College] show inclusion so that it doesn’t seem like the college is not being included in everything that is going on in the world. The LGBTQIA+ is a part of Broward College and I do support it."

Althea Blackwood, Class of 2014 - Student Support Specialist, BRIDGE Grant Program

"I work with students, faculty members, and staff and we promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s important to appreciate everyone's differences and learn from each other. I enjoy working with students with different cultural backgrounds and perspectives and I’m learning a lot from them too."

Vivian Choy, Class of 1998 - Youth Career Coach Grant Support Specialist
