On December 14, hundreds of Broward College alumni graduated together at the Fall 2022 Commencement ceremony at Hard Rock Live. These newest degree holders were welcomed by the Alumni & Friends and received their alumni pins, gifts, and opportunities to take photos to commemorate their special occasion. We look forward to staying connected with these newest alumni, and we will be following their journeys with anticipation.

NewsA place for me: How Broward College hospitality and tourism student Nicolas Rangel De Pinto found encouragement in the classroom and beyond

As a young student in Venezuela, Nicolas Rangel De Pinto had few places to find respite from hardship. His social life was beset by constant political turmoil, power outages, and lack of water, making it difficult to survive, let alone thrive. And because his neighborhood was held in the grips of dangerous crime, he often found that the only safe space was the classroom. This month, Nicolas graduated from the R. Motwani Family Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Learn more


NewsSeventh Heaven: Broward College student achieves higher education dream after seven years of service and faith

For Deidre Robinson-Wiggins, seven is a lucky number. Deidre is the seventh child of her large family of 11. She weighed 7.7 pounds at birth, and she herself gave birth to seven children, which she raised as a single mother. And on December 14, she graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management degree, after seven years of hard work, determination, perseverance, and faith. Learn more

When it comes to social media marketing and digital content creation, Broward College student Brianna Randle is a pro. Literally. The 21-year-old graduate of Somerset Academy Charter High School is already an established fashion blogger who has received recognition in some of the industry’s most prestigious publications. I am the second family member to serve on the Foundation board, as my father was Chairman over 20 years ago. NewsDr. Larry A. Rice appointed for service on the Broward College Foundation Board

Dr. Larry A. Rice was appointed to the Broward College Foundation Board of Directors during its December 8, 2022 board meeting to serve a two-year term. Dr. Rice has over 28 years of higher education experience, including being the past president, vice president, and dean of academic affairs of Johnson and Wales University. Learn more

We congratulate Broward College alumna and staff member Annia Valdes who was selected to serve as the College’s next Associate Registrar for Compliance and Training staff, effective December 16, 2022.

Annia joined the Broward College family in 1994 in the Registrar’s Office as the Collegewide Records Specialist at the Willis Holcombe Center in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. During her tenure, Annia worked in different capacities across the college, serving students in varied roles within enrollment services, admissions and registration, advisement, and financial aid. Broward College South Gallery will showcase the works of Broward College Foundation board member Dionne Polite from Thursday, December 1, 2022, through Thursday, January 19, 2023. This event will be Polite’s first art exhibition, and it is titled “KALEIDOSCOPE: My Culture, My Pride,” which will feature works, including “Abundance,” “Living In Color,” “Empty, but Full,” and more. The public is also encouraged to join Polite for an artist talk and reception on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. Learn more.




January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. To help build awareness around this important topic, Broward College is hosting a Walk-for-Awareness event on January 28, 2023, at the Central campus. Funds raised for this event will also benefit the Broward College Social Behavioral Sciences Scholarship. Learn more




Due to popular demand, Broward College Alumni & Friends will be co-hosting a Night Out with the Florida Panthers once again in 2023. Save the date in your calendar for Thursday, April 6, and look out for registration information in the new year.
