Alumnus Surgeon Invests $50,000 in Mentorship and Scholarships at Broward College
A Broward College graduate, now a renowned bio-medical engineer and transplant surgeon, has generously committed $50,000 to support the college’s Professional Enhancement Program. As one of the youngest surgeons in his region to successfully perform simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplants, he attributes his achievements to the mentorship and guidance he received from his professors and advisors. In appreciation, he is giving back by funding scholarships and personally mentoring two current students to help shape their futures. Although choosing to remain anonymous, his gift is already opening doors for the next generation of Broward College students.

ALUMNI & STUDENTS ENGAGE IN CAREER CONVERSATIONS
On September 24, Broward College Alumni & Friends and the Central Campus Student Government hosted its first Career Conversations with Alumni panel. The purpose of the event was to allow students to hear from alumni about unique paths and professional journeys made possible by Broward College.
Reginald Andre, a Broward College Foundation board member and CEO of cybersecurity firm Ark Solvers and immigration attorney Laura Schonberg of Schonberg & Timerman, P.L. spoke with appreciation for their experiences at BC and lessons learned. As business owners and entrepreneurs, they offered some key tips to students which included the importance of creating the foundation for future networks by building relationships with fellow students and professors while in college, gaining experience through internships, and being adaptable, curious, and continually learning.
Central Campus Student Government leaders Zachary Whalen (President) and Grecia Cardenas (Vice President) expertly moderated the program with questions before opening the floor to the over 60 students in the audience. The panel concluded with a networking session and students approaching the star panelists with further questions.
We are grateful to our alumni Andre and Laura for giving back in this way and returning to campus to inspire current students.
If you are a specialist in your field and would like to share your story with our students by participating in a future Career Conversations panel, please contact us at alumni@broward.edu.
