It is with heavy hearts that we share that Broward College Trustee Dr. Rajendra Prasad Gupta passed away on October 5, 2018.
Trustee Gupta had an outspoken and uncompromising passion for serving students, as reflected during his service on the Board of Broward College, which began on September 25, 2015. He loved to fight for the underdog; he believed that everyone deserved the opportunity to obtain a quality higher education and succeed in life.
His goal was to empower people and enhance their quality of life through education, and he did so. He offered his personal and professional resources, including numerous relationships in the medical field, to support our faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Gupta communicated regularly with our Dean of Nursing, Dr. Deborah Papa, and our Dean of Health Sciences, Dr. Nora Powell, to place students in jobs after graduation and to give them valuable experiences through internship opportunities while completing their studies. Notably, he completed his good deeds without any expectation of fanfare or a return.
Not only did he show tremendous support for our local students, but he had a keen focus on enhancing our international programming. Over the summer of 2018, Dr. Gupta visited India where Broward College has an international center offering students the opportunity to begin their American higher education close to home. He was working to expand these opportunities, and facilitated promising discussions and meetings regarding future partnerships.
We will miss him dearly, and we will never forget his willingness to leverage all he had gained to support the lives of others. He loved Broward College, and he loved pushing our students to have the gumption to be great.
