PILLARS CONFERENCE HONORS ALUMNI, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND MORE
The theme of this year’s conference was “Maximize the Power of Now,” and attendees learned how to make the most of the present, the only moment that holds true power, while maximizing opportunities and minimizing excuses. This year’s conference featured the Padrino Family, owners of Padrinos Cuban Restaurants, and retired architect and author Mario Cartaya. The conference is a collaborative effort between the Broward College SBSHS Professional Enhancement Program and other Broward College partners, including Broward College Alumni & Friends. Learn more.

Broward College Foundation receives a $93,572 investment from The Florida College System Foundation
On Tuesday, August 22, the Florida College System Foundation (FCSF) presented a $93,572 check to the Broward College Foundation (BCF) during the FCSF Board of Directors Meeting at BBX Capital. Learn more.
Broward College recognized among best employers in the State of Florida
Broward College appears on Forbes’ list of Best-In-State Employers for 2023. Broward College appeared with 89 other Florida businesses from across all industries with more than over 500 employees. Of the nine Florida institutions in the education category, Broward College is the only state college. Learn more.
$454,000 Grant from National Science Foundation helps Broward College use drones to enhance aviation training
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Broward College more than $450,000 in grant funding for the Drones to Aviation Pathway (DAP) Project. The grant is designed to support the development of a comprehensive program focused on increasing access to avionics careers for underrepresented students. Learn more.

BCEx IDEATION COHORT, SEPTEMBER 12
BCEx's Ideation begins on September 12th (in just two weeks) - don't hesitate to join us! This program is a fantastic opportunity for you to turn your idea into reality in just 4-6 weeks. The program offers you a chance to develop a solid foundation for your idea and helps guide you through the process of bringing it to life.
During these 4-6 weeks, you'll have the chance to nurture your entrepreneurial mindset. You'll engage in customer discovery to help you understand your target audience better and find your "why" – the core motivation behind your idea. Registration is currently open for two new sections of our virtual program. If you're looking to make significant progress on refining and expanding your business idea, this is the program for you. By the end of it, you'll be equipped with the skills to effectively communicate your well-developed business idea, preparing you for the BCEx Lean Launchpad Accelerator in the upcoming spring semester. Best of all, this program comes at no cost.
JOURNEY INTO THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET, SEPTEMBER 26
Register today for our next Alumni & Friends event, co-hosted with Broward College Entrepreneurship Experience BCEx, on Tuesday, September 26, at 6 p.m. on Central Campus in Davie. You’ll hear directly from alumni and innovators from the Broward College community who will share how their unique entrepreneurial mindset launched them on a path to success. You’ll have the chance to network, make new contacts, ask questions, and enjoy some food and refreshments.

BONNIE FLORY, CLASS OF 1998
We celebrate alumna and Broward College professor Bonnie Flory on receiving the Faculty Pillar of the Community Award at the 14th Annual Pillars Conference at the Pillars Hotel & Club on Fort Lauderdale Beach. This award recognizes exemplary contributions to the community by a faculty member. Professor Flory is a proud BC graduate who consistently receives high praise from students and faculty and is a former Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2014 and 2017.
Throughout her time at Broward College, she has spearheaded a classroom service-learning project, which was featured in the Sun Sentinel. She currently serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Sociology Club on Central Campus and as a program advisor for the Professional Enhancement Program. Through her joyful disposition and unswerving dedication to serving our students, she has made an impact in the Broward College community and in the community at large.

Florida Ready to Work Soft Skills
Learn skills and acquire credentials that make you more employable. Broward College alumni are invited to benefit from this free opportunity to earn official Florida Ready to Work Soft Skills credentials that will showcase to employers your communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Registration is simple. Send an email to employmentsolutions@broward.edu and let them know that as an alumna or alumnus, you would like to have access to the free soft skills credentials program. Provide your first and last name and your preferred email. You will receive your login information.
Florida Ready to Work (FRW) is a career-ready program that provides employability and soft skills training. Those who successfully complete the soft skills training program earn a Florida Soft Skills Credential. This program is sponsored and funded by the State of Florida and is administered by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. It is offered to Broward College students and alumni through Broward College Employment Solutions.
