THE BENEFITS OF HIRING
BROWARD COLLEGE APPRENTICES
The Apprenticeship Program at Broward College can assist you with your talent needs. An apprenticeship can be your talent solution, providing a reputable, organized framework for recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retaining, and advancing your workforce.
There are myriad benefits to hiring Broward College students, which include:
- Cost savings: Hire an apprentice at a percentage of the market rate, and increase salaries as they gain skills. Contract with Broward College and save on recruitment costs.
- Compliance: Let Broward College handle the registration and reporting required by the Department of Labor and the Florida Department of Education. We will monitor apprentice success on‐the‐job with your assigned supervisor.
- Retention: Once the apprenticeship is complete, you can permanently hire the apprentice.
- Diversity: Access a diverse talent base of applicants including underrepresented populations.
- Training: Apprentices receive front-loaded blocks of training in class and then report to work where they apply what they learn with an assigned mentor on the job. Employers train apprentices with specific skills they need for the success of that organization.

13TH ANNUAL PILLARS CONFERENCE
The 13th Annual Pillars Conference took place from August 11 through August 14 both virtually and in person at The Pillars Hotel & Club in Fort Lauderdale. The conference is a collaborative effort between the Professional Enhancement Program of the Broward College Social Behavioral Sciences & Human Services department, together with Broward College Alumni & Friends.
The conference is spearheaded by Dr. Lulrick Balzora, who is Dean of the SBSHS Pathway and the founder of the Professional Enhancement Program (PEP) at Broward College.
This year’s conference theme was Maximize Conflict Transformation, and featured Broward College alumnae guest speakers including attorney Krisel McSweeney, St. Thomas law student Katya Kross, and US Army Veteran and Mental Health Therapist Rahjanni Iusi, who shared their perspectives as lawyers, activists, and mental health practitioners on transformative approaches to conflict. Additional guest speakers were Broward College psychology professor Dr. Keny Felix, clinical psychologist Audrea Paxton, and executive director of Omaha Conservatory of Music Ruth Meints.
In addition, Broward College Social Behavioral Sciences & Human Services students live streamed their thoughtful presentations about their collaborative and innovative work. This included students from our international centers in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, some of whom start formal studies at colleges in the United States this year.
Broward College Alumni & Friends is proud to be a partner with the Pillars Conference and its mission to invest in leaders to strengthen their sense of global purpose, total well-being, and individual resilience.
This year's program was designed by Broward College alumna and Phi Theta Kappa member Claudette Goico Sernius.
